Default And i thought your insurance rates go DOWN when you turn 25?

Im in florida so i never carried insurance on the bike (not a requirement in this state). I figured that now im 25 and a half i should look around in case it gets wrecked or stolen. And im shocked because i have had NO INCIDENTS in the last 8 years and ALL tickets have been dismissed + im a safe driver. If you look at the policies its the COLLISION part thats the most expensive.

I'm new to the whole insurance thing..... but i do believe you do have to have some insurance "history". They have to base what kind of rider you are. Thats why there are questions like "have you had motorcycle insurance in the past year" and "Have you had motorcycle insurance with another company in the last 6 months." They have no "history" of you so you are rated along with the "delinquent" under 25 category as high risk. Until you prove that you are a rider that is experienced.... and wont wad your bike.

The fact that i have had a motorcycle endorsement for 3 years and i have carried insurance on my cars for the past 8 years (without any claims) doesnt mean anything?

So anytime you buy motorcycle insurance for the first time (regardless of age or driving history) the premium will be sky high for the 1st year? And they drop after that?

The premium drops down by about 1344 bucks (per year) if i remove collision but keep comprehensive (that includes theft, etc). Maybe i just start it off like this and add in collision later on once they see im not claiming anything for a year or so?

I pay less than $60 a month for full coverage on my VTX 1300. Before I bought my VTX I had a Shadow 750 (first bike I ever insured) that I paid less than $30 a month for full coverage. To add my RC to the plan was another $50 a month for liability or $150 for full coverage. I'm 23 and have had bikes constantly insured for the past 2 years.

Pretty much gained insurance history on cheap, low premium bikes. Proved I wasn't gonna wad it in 2 weeks. This way my insurance wouldn't start off astronomically when I bought bigger and better bikes. Granted you're over 25, but you've never had a bike insured, and the first bike that you're gonna insure is a Hayabusa, the insurance companies are immediately gonna assume that you're high risk. The only way to help yourself out is to either swallow the insurance for the first year, or get a cheap, small, used cruiser and insure just that.
