fucking great... so you now have to wear a seat belt, yet its ok to ride a motorcycle with no helmet here. talk about ass backwards...

plus i'm ashamed to admit it, but i know irv slosberg personally. He used to be a customer of mine when i had my silk screen business. he also wanted to raise the driving age to 18...i'm all for that, but not this stupid law.

on a side note though, i do wear my seat belt...and my helmet

I wish they'd mandate helmets and require riders without them to pay insane fines.

this law isnt necessarily bad, but there are better things they could be doing.

no, its not necessarily bad. most people wear them so it isn't a problem but its just a waste of time. a scenario could be that a cop has a stick up his ass pulls over someone not wearing a seat belt and an accident happens down the road that his presence could've help avoid. its just a pain in the ass with all the laws that they have...would love to see them pass a cell phone law...

They have had this in NJ for a while, and I have been pulled over before because the cop said I wasnt earing my seatbelt, but all he did was tell me that I put it on while he was pulling me over and started poking his head into my window asking what I was doing in the area or ask if I'd been drinking or tell me my car smelled like weed (didnt smoke at the time), or whatever they felt like trying to get me on.

A few of my friends have had the same thing happen just cuz they drive a flashy car.

simply put, this will wind up being a revenue generator for the police more than anything else.

I think we already have a law on the books about driving while talking on your phone, it just isnt enforced well. if they did enforce some of the laws on the books even, there wouldnt be much of a shortage of revenue.

come to think of it, I think there already IS a seatbelt law on the books that was passed about 4 years ago.

They lied. I was living in Florida when the first seat belt law was passed. They were VERY vocal in their promises that if we let them pass this, it will save lives and they would never use it as a primary infraction...and here we are...This is why some of us are screaming about even the slightest encroachment on any right or freedom

somebody needs to teach the lawmakers to look at their promises and keep them then.
