I know its all politics Obama picked Biden because people criticize Obama on his lack of experiance so why not pick the guy who has been in the Senate for the longest time... And people criticize McCain on being too liberal so he picked the farthest right candidate and it doesnt hurt that she is a woman so now he has a minority on his ticket as well. It will be interesting how it all pans out history will be made either way. But fuck it we all know the americans vote doesnt pick your president anyways its the Electorial college so why should I waste any more energy on this subject.

Doesn't anyone know what our government is about, was founded on,or how it works?

Electoral votes are based on districts with each district getting an allotment of votes based on population. If a candidate wins that district,he gets all of their electoral votes. Now a candidate can lose by a landslide in several districts but if in the end he wins more district votes, even if he won the districts by only one vote each,he will become President. Several Presidents have been inaugurated without winning the "popular" vote.

To simplify, if the country was broken up in 100 districts and each district had 1 vote with a population of 100. Candidate C wins all the popular votes in 49 districts for a total of 4900 popular votes and 49 electoral votes. Candidate B only wins his districts by 2 votes but he wins 51 districts for totals of 2601 popular votes and 51 electoral votes. What really skews the numbers is that candidate C also won 49 votes in each of candidate B's winning districts which brings his popular vote total to 7399. So even though candidate C has almost 3X candidate B's popular vote he would still not be President.

Hey I didn't design the system...

It's not a perfect system by any means, but generally people who bitch about the EC have no fucking idea what they are talking about. Without the EC, or some sort of balancing mechanism, nobody would campaign in half, if not 2/3 of the states in the country... People in Iowa would have ZERO say in who their leader was...

who cares where they campaign? Politicians look more at demographics than they do locations. Whens the last time you've actually attended a campaign event? last time i went to one, i never even got in the damn door. I'll let the news tell me who to vote for.

But im voting for the hot chick anyways.

Not to mention that it helps minimize cheating. To be honest with you,it never ceases to amaze me how little someone with a college degree knows in this country. These are basic governmental concepts that I learned in junior high school. Shit, some of this stuff I learned from "Timer" in between cartoons on Sat mornings. People don't know how laws are passed, how funds are dispersed, basic economic systems. Everybody just sits around blaming someone, usually the President.

It's funny really, take the Iraq war for example. We could not have even gone to war without the support of the Congress. Even now,the Congress (Dem controlled, btw) could stop the war whenever they choose by not funding it.

The Congress levies taxes, including fuel taxes, they could suspend the tax to ease the burden on the people if they wanted. They could pass laws making all cars electric and all houses solar by 2020 if they wanted, they could outlaw incandescent bulbs, fluorocarbons, strip mining, and anything else that is supposedly "causing" global warming. They could take half the money spent on "foreign aid" a year and build windmills in this country and have us off coal in 20 years or less.

The question is... would they spend the money to put their campaign commerical on TV in South Dakota? Nope. There would be a real possiblity of millions of people who've never even heard of their president...
