California says - NO LOUD PIPES
Seems this happened a month or two ago, but Governor Schwarzenegger signed into law SB 435, which makes it a crime for motorcyclist in his state to ride a motorcycle with an exhaust system not officially approved by the EPA...In other words, no aftermarket exhaust systems on your ride, or you face paying a fine...
SB 435 makes motorcyclists riding in California on any motorcycle manufactured after January 1, 2013, with a non EPA approved exhaust in violation and subject to citation... Here's Cali's current laws... California state motorcycle laws First time violators pay $50-$100...If proof of correction is not presented, the fine is raised to $100-$250... Denver and Boston have similar ordinances, and several other cities across the nation are always trying to get something similar to this law on their books, too... So, just remember that the more we annoy the general public with those overly loud exhausts, the greater the chance that one of those people you annoy will be someone in political power...And that person just might make it his or her perogative to pass a similar law in your town... And like always, we'll have no one to blame but ourselves... |
