Nov 27, 2010.....Associated Press AUGUSTA , Ga. - A U.S. Marine reservist collecting toys for children was stabbed when he helped stop a suspected shoplifter in eastern Georgia . Best Buy sales manager Orvin Smith told The Augusta Chronicle that man was seen on surveillance cameras Friday putting a laptop under his jacket at the Augusta store. When confronted, the man became irate, knocked down an employee, pulled a knife and ran toward the door. Outside were four Marines collecting toys for the service branch's "Toys For Tots" program. Smith said the Marines stopped the man, but he stabbed one of them, Cpl. Phillip Duggan, in the back. The cut did not appear to be severe. The suspect was transported to the local hospital with two broken arms, a broken leg, possible broken ribs, assorted lacerations and bruises he obtained when he "fell" trying to run after stabbing the Marine. The suspect, whose name was not released, was held until police arrived. The Richmond County Sheriff's office said it is investigating [QUOTE=OMEGA;2745298]way to many robberies in the past few days, you got to love a happy ending. http://abclocal.go.com/ktrk/story?se...cal&id=7848006 Police say a store owner shot and killed three suspects during an attempted robbery of his jewelry store. Related Content More: Got a story idea? Let us know! Police are calling the jewelry store owner a hero. They say in all likelihood, he probably saved his wife's life. They say he shot and killed three armed robbers after they tried to steal from him. Police were called to Castillo Jewelry on Canal Street and North Hagerman Street around 2pm. Police say two of the suspects came into the store and asked about a ring. While the owner and his wife were helping them, a third person came into the store, pulled out a gun and said he was robbing the store. That's when the other two suspects pulled out guns as well. They forced the wife into a back room and tied her hands with plastic wiring. The owner was able to grab a handgun that he kept for protection as the suspects were trying to tie him up. That's when he shot and killed one of the suspects. The owner then grabbed a shotgun and shot and killed the other two suspects, but not before they managed to shoot him in the shoulder and abdomen. He was taken to Ben Taub Hospital where he's undergoing surgery. "They broke in his place once, and they robbed him another time," said neighbor Dan Montoya. "He was ready." The owner's wife gave her statements to police and went to Ben Taub Hospital to be with her husband. The store has a secondary door and a security buzzer to allow customers access to the shop. Neighbors say the owner was concerned about his wife's safety in the store. Police are searching for a possible fourth suspect who was operating as a getaway driver. He's been described as a Hispanic man in his 20s with a thin face, possibly driving a gold or brown 90s model Nissan Sentra type vehicle. The identity of the suspects has not been released. The investigation is ongoing. (Copyright ©2010 KTRK-TV/DT. All Rights Reserved.)
