I've got mad respect for anyone willing to do hard, dangerous work for the benefit of my safety/freedom. I don't have the balls or inclination to enlist myself so the burdens on me to show them extra respect and help them out whenever I can.
We get a lot of military and deploying military going through the airport I work at and I make it a point to ask them if they need help finding their gates and thank them for their service. For some reason they're made to travel in uniform which seems to make other passengers intimidated by them and stare rather than talking with them. Pretty lame.
