I think a .410 is a good start for a youth gun. If you go with an over and under your going to get a little more kick then you would if you had a semi-auto. But even at that a .410 won't give you even that much. I shoot sporting clays so I have a Browning Citori 626 Sporting Clays with a 30" barrel or I have a Remington 11-87 premier 12 ga with a 28" barrel. I've also got a Remington 1100 12 ga with a 26" barrel.

I've thought about getting a .410 in over and under just to hone the skills. A 20 ga is a good one to go with, but it's got some ass behind it. If your shooting a lot, you'll start to feel it afterwards. A typical sporting clays course is either 50 or 100 rounds. I don't know the age, but 50-100 rounds with a 20 ga, I think they'd begin to be sore.







My brother has a Mossberg .410 with a pistol grip.
