When you place the amp, preamp/D-A converters and and other components on the same platform you necessitate certain compromises when you have everything draw from the same transformer. Also, receivers use an amp set-up that splits power off to the speakers from a single source (so to speak), in the case of the separate amp, it has 5 matched, separate mono amps. Total channel separation. With my set-up you could juggle the amp inputs and speaker out puts without any detriment to your sound quality. I went this way because I wanted the best sound quality possible. Here come the jeers but I have more money in my cables and speaker wires than what that receiver costs.
