Teavana.com

They have a store at the mall here in OKC. Oddly, there are no stores in Texas.

The management office contacted me directly and asked me for Carolina's unit so they could make sure some of what they collected went to her unit. I thought that was very nice of them.

If what Carolina told me was any indication of other units, if you are able to get the information for a particular unit's Chaplain, and sent the items to them, they can distribute as necessary.

I hope everyone would do something like this. I'm working on another box for Carolina, as well as a separate box to go to the Chaplain with all kinds of stuff in it for the others she works with.

The post office has free flat rate boxes that are about 12"x12"x8" that are $11.95 to APO/FPO addresses. Can't beat that!

Woot. I just got the OK from our Director of Corporate Citizenship - my company will pay the shipping costs, so I've organized a drive.

That's awesome guys. We're set pretty well here in Kosovo, so we're actually sending some stuff to our sister unit that is in the 'stan right now!

It's only $11.50 if you have a USPS account and print/purchase the labels online. Plus, you can schedule free pickup of the packages.

Ok not gonna question the intent of the original email, but you need a name and address of a specific person for ti to go there. "To any troop" goes in the garbage. If you are mailing something to Afghan or Iraq it won't get there by chritmas, not in the last 2 weeks. Last time I was there, I beat a bunch of my mail home. Going there especially this time of year takes forever because of all the extra stuff going there for christmas. A great gift to send is cigaretts, marlboro and newport especially.

If you want to donate stuff call your local army base MWR or most congressmen will be able to help.

Or if anyone wants to send stuff to me I'll take it. I prefer stereo equipment, nothing cheap though.

Also I've never really experienced a PX being wiped out of everything except babywipes and tampons. They are the first to go. My first trip over there tampons were part of my medical kit.

This morning I got an e-mail FW to me by a friend who is in the Reserves - he's already done a couple of tours in Afghanistan. I'll be sending off some items and thought I'd post up here for anyone else who would like to help these men and women out.

Thanks.

Subject: Care packages needed for deployed military

Hi all:

As the holidays approach, I would like to remind one and all that we still have Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines in harm's way and they still need our help.

I just received a email from one of my former subordinate officers that is deployed that read in part: "The PXs here are wiped out, unless you want feminine hygiene products, ethnic hair products, coolers, or tourist coffee mugs... No essentials like soap..."

If you can support our fine fighting forces, please send a care package containing personal hygiene products (male preferred), and anything else you would like to include that is not restricted (see http://www.bootsonground.com/soldier-restricted-items.htm for general details) to any soldier, etc. in care of:

MAJ. ANDREW HOWES
USACE-AES
APO AE 09355

He will ensure that what you send will end up in the hands of those that need them. Please pass this along as appropriate.

Thank you in advance, God Bless and Merry Christmas.

Sincerely,

Greg
