WTF is wrong with people?

Hey Tommy, I know you see the worst of the worst where your ER is at. What motivates you do go to work when you know you are treating a lot of scum and that they are going back to their scum sucking ways? As I get older and hear more about this stuff and dislike the general population more and more I'm wondering if I am getting into the right field...

If Vet school wasn't so damn expensive and competitive...

What motivates me, I guess keeping a roof over my head and a place to keep my bikes

Granted where I work I see and deal with a lot of bottom feeders but at the same time I am usualy treating the victims anyway so I am not dealing with the true lowlifes most of the time.

Tonights an interesting mix I had one guy who got into a fight, seemed like a nice kid, not your typical thug, and he had a nice thru and thru lac to his face. def a complicated wound repair, took a lot of time but it came out realy well and scarring should be minimal. Guy wouldnt stop thanking me for fixing him up.

Then we have 2 ungrateful ones. One was calle dback for something and left once because it wasnt convienient for her to stay. Now when it better fits her schedule she returns and now wont stay to see a specialist becasue its late and it took too long (hey asshole this isnt buger king you dont always get it your way )

then the other one brings her daughter in and makes a big stink because she was in pain now th epain went away and are waiting on some imaging studies to be read. Now its not so urgent since its almost 5am.

So I gotta take the good ones with the bad ones, but the nice thing about ER is I can fix stuff right here so its like instant gratification some times.

plus it beats tossing boxes at ups (my old job)

Tommy, what made you decide to get into the medical field? Did you want to help people, or was it more an interest in medical stuff and the intellectual challenge?

I'm soul searching

I'm still pissed at the news I heard a couple of days ago from pug rescue here who threw a pug out of a moving car. Compounded with the stories I hear and the pictures I see- like the pug that was tied to the vets office after almost being beat to death (confirmed from the vet that it was a human doing the beating). People suck balls. I'm trying to keep perspective that you hear more bad than good about people and not to let the bad ones ruin it for everyone else and the medical field is something I always wanted to get into.

Maybe when I am making big bucks like you are, my motivation will change
