I don't really get it. It sounds like she could have at least filed charges against him for assault and sexual assault in addition to obtaining the peace bond. I'm guessing that is why the court believed she "appeared on the surface to have a range of alternatives short of murder". She certainly stands as a sympathetic figure but I still can't justify dismissing out of hand the legal options and going directly to murder for hire.

They specifically stated that, in this case, the hitman would be the only one committing an illegal act.
