PS2's are a good example... they used the cheapest lasers they could get their hands on and they failed left and right. Trust me, I've repaired 100+ PS2's and 99% of them were laser failures. That said, I own an Xbox 360. As far as the console wars are concerned, even beyond RROD issues the PS3 is the superior machine. I expect the tables will turn for the next gen systems depending on each companies marketing strategy. Either be the first one out with a new shiney system... or continue developing technology after your competitors launch and fire back with a superior system. Both companies have tried it both ways... let's see where their stomach is the next time around.
meh i think user had something to do with that. Ive had three ps2s over the years, four if you count the jp only psx i had for a while and only the first one had laser problems and even then i had found a method to keep it playable for about two years after it first started having problems

I've had the same PS2 for...let me count...8 years now. And had zero problems.

I even pulled mine off the stand and it hit the floor from a 4.5' drop in college. Still going strong.

Is that the slim line model? That's what my son has. Knowing him, he beats the shit out of it but it's like a Timex, keeps on ticking.
