I've all but given up on finding new chairs that will match our dining room table. I'm starting to keep an eye out at those used furniture places on the corners - hoping to find some chairs similar to yours that I can refinish to match our table. We just don't want the cheap Ikea type shit - looking for solid and sturdy wood.

I love wood projects. I'm more into building stuff than the restoration. Chair is looking good, Fred.
My favorite project was my pergola.

I would love to start building stuff, most of my wood projects are in support of other projects, and the other projects I have done are all sitting as gifts in my parents house. They have a pair of adirondack chairs with 3 end tables, a few foot stools, butting boards, clocks and that sort of thing. I would like to learn how to make myself a new bedroom set.

But first I will need a work bench

As far as a bench goes, the simpler the better. I've made a couple. For the framing, I've used 2x4s on one and 4x4s on the other. I'm really rough on a workbench. I beat the shit out of it on a regular basis

Ditto! Simple is gooder.

My heavy duty one uses 4x4's and 2" thick oak tops.

The hobby bench is made from 2x4's with (2) 3/4" pieces of ply wood as a top.

That looks like the plans I'm going to follow, with some modification, 2 of these in front with wood jaws bolted on:

A 4 outlet power strip, and possibly some storage space below
