Looking cool isn't anywhere near as good, as being mistaken for a cop by idiot drivers. Gotta love the Hi Viz.

Doesn't work that way in the US. The cop bikers get fucked over. They wear shitty nonprotective boots, shitty non protective cloth pants, and a shitty t-shirt length crappy cloth shirt. Around here they don't even wear full face lids, which is common in the US.

Very true. I know in WA they actually wear 'stich suits though... down here, it's no different than if they were driving save the "stripper" knee high boots, and "wight lifting" gloves.

They get the same up here; crappy HD motorcycle (though there are some big BMW units under test), stovepipe boots, short sleeve shirts, half helmets, and uniform pants.

My mesh gear looks enough like the stuff that the BMW guys have on test. Then there's the fact that we have a huge immigrant population here, who have been train by experience to recognize Hi Viz as being used by police, in their countries of origin.

What's funny is down here, they have mostly BMW's with a few Harley's... and the BMW riders HATE them. They miss the Harley. When I ask why they say it's better, when pressed further, they pretty much end up saying... it's cooler looking.

Sweet... Cop Squids.

I didn't get a chance to talk to any of the officers, who were testing the BMWs and new gear. The pilot programme is now over, but I haven't seen any news releases on the results either.

Here's a video of the unveiling, of the new "BMX" motorcycles and the new gear.

I went to Texas DPS training last year when Harley Davidson brought their Motor Unit fleet down to the new DPS training facility. They were showing off their "top of the line" bike...

They were most proud of the hockey puck shaped knob on the top of the rear bag that made it possible to open the case while wearing gloves.

Seriously. THAT is what they were most proud of.

After riding the BMW motor unit (RTP) for three years there was nothing I liked about the Harley Davidson unit. It was really hot, as in literally HOT burning temperature. The controls were difficult to get to light them all up siren/lights/etc. AND, they had no LEDs. The BMWs have every control within thumb distance that can be completely lit up with very little work.

I won't even get into the motor and handling...
