I know my max response would of been to just call the cops and watch the guy til the cops arrived. Holding someone hostage for an assault I had no part in can be an easy way into a lawsuit in this sue happy society.
What should be common sense in helping people who were attacked can often lead to a great negative impact on your own life it seems like... |

In Ontario we actually had a "good Samaritan act" passed in 2001, that protects people who render emergency assistance. Too bad it doesn't cover criminal law intervention too

Yeah, it's a fine line. George Zimmerman would agree. Where assistance and vigilante justice meet..

It's far less of a fine line when you intervene in a direct assault, than when you preemptively act.

Yeah I am not saying Zimmerman's case and his are the even remotely the same, did the coorelation to show that laws written to be meant for one thing can be abused for another.

Or as I usually refer to it, "The Law of Unintended Consequences."

Its completely up to you on oressing charges on the guy. Thats time and money.
On the hospital bills, just talk to the collection person on payments. Ask about discounts for cash paing. One of the hospitals here does 50% if youre a cash payer. Of course its 50% off what the put down. Just haggle with them. I was reading a news letter talking about people actaully paying less cause they asked for a discount. Also tell them what you can oay a month. Usually they dont care. Im setup for $50 a month, but i pay more eah month. |
