hmm.. metal cutting disk, I'll have to see if i have that in the set. the cut off wheel barely made a scratch on it

i might do lower fairing in the future, but not this season.

I think the metal cutting disks are only a couple bucks for a two or three pack. I used one to cut the metal bracket when I was putting on my new tail light and it worked great.

what my bike looks like right now

dropping out the exhaust system is actually not too hard, the clamp to the rear header is a bitch to get at but luckily i'm skinny
i'm about half way through cutting the pipe - after thats off, and I sand it down a bit, I think its pretty straightforward to install the slip on. then more swearing while i try to mount the whole thing to the bike - and im done.

Never dropped the exhaust. Just used a sawzall to chop it.
Hold the new pipe up, visualize where you need to cut it (remember it needs to slip over part of the header) and then measure to double check it.

Here is a somewhat decent pic of right after I got it on. There is about 2" of the header pipe in the slip on.
Pretty much cut right behind the rear brake light switch.

yeah I know i could do it that way but i didnt want to scratch up the swingarm or anything. its really not all that hard to drop out the system.

also, I just couldn't resist starting it with the pipe off... holy crap that sounds good
