I was born and raised in the south where we don't really need AWD...I drove a RWD taxi for over a decade through ice in the winter. All of my personal cars have been FWD for the last decade. It's all about what I'm used to. My automatic instinct when sliding is to drop to nuetral and roll with it...not accelerate through it. Plus, I have more control with a manual shift than an automatic. I control when and how smoothly it shifts. I've only been in the north for just shy of a year, so I'm still learning how to deal with the weather. I've got to hit a slick parking lot and practice driving the Suby. I was ok driving it in this morning, and we got some ice last night. I only slid twice and had to force myself not to react like I would if I'd been in the Mazda. I'm a quick study, so I think I'll be ok. I'm planning on replacing this thing with a Jeep Wrangler as soon as it goes up for sale (My neighbor's). I guess I'll have to get used to AWD eventually.
