Don't really like craigslist, as you have to respond to 20 emails for each item, and out of those 20 emails, 5 of them claim they'll show up, 1 of them actually does (an hour late), and tries to low-ball you.

yeah you will def get a bit of spam from it. You can tell those really easy they are very generic. I only respond to people that obviously typed the repsonse (meaning it's specific or has questions, etc not just a general reply) and/or leave a phone number.

You'll get a lot of those BS, I want the item send me your bank account number, SS# and mother's maiden name so I can get you a cashier check crap...

I've had great luck with Craiglist but I'm sure there are horror stories too....if they are coming to your home I'd try to have your roommate or Daniel there too so you aren't alone with strangers. Anything small I would take and meet them at a nearby gas station, etc.

I havent had any problems with Craiglist spammers, but like Skiergirl said, if they MUST come to your house to see the stuff, borrow a big dog, have a few large guys on hand and even maybe mention the security measures you are taking. Nothing makes me more nervous than letting total strangers into my home...and with you being injured and your living arrangements, the more safety measures you can take, the better!

Yeah I have sold stuff on CL before and of course the spam is ridiculous. I am waiting until Daniel comes home before I do all this because it would be way too easy for someone to think, "she's crippled, I could just steal this."

And I am going to be very clear that it has to be picked up, that it is on the third floor and we will not be helping after it is out of the door.

I intend on explaining in the post that the couch will require at least 3 guys who know what they are doing to move it. My husband and FIL who ran a furniture business for 10 years have a hard time moving that couch....this should be interesting.

Again, I have a loooong weekend ahead of me.

I dont know that I would give them that much detail, just post it up for sale, let people make appts. to see it, and if they are serious, then discuss arrangements for pick up. Dont wanna scare them off with the dreaded "work" before they even see it!
