Quick have you looked into UHAUL?! the 5x8 I rented from Anchorage to Biloxi was $580 or so... that's a fully enclosed trailer... or you could try finding an open trailer and putting your bike in the bed of the truck (as it won't catch the rocks kicked up by your truck)

Well I just got back from a overnight haul to Southern Illinois and back. Dropped off my Mustang (which I ended up not parting out) and then brought back a Mitsubishi which I have to clean out in the am and try to sell at Carmax for my mom.
Loved the f250 and how it towed. 5000 lbs was a joke and I managed just over 14 mpg while towing which is about 1 or 2 mpg higher then anything else I have ever towed with. Either way, I trust my hitch now. I missed the package delivery for today so I will pick it up Monday morning and then install the system followed by going to pick my bike up. I found out the bike wasn't totaled so now I take it with me to Alaska and will need to get two repair quotes once I get up there. I was worried about stuff kicking up and hitting my bike but I am going to put my bike cover over it and then secure it down to that it won't parachute up or anything. I have several days of driving ahead so I should be able to get it all figured out with time. Hope to leave Tuesday am for Waco, Texas. |

I've used one of those. Helpful hints: Strap down the tires. That will keep the bike from bouncing out of the channel. Strap the handlebars to the bumper. Most of the time the bike tends to lean outward-away from the truck. Watch out for any major bumps in the road. You don't want to put any undue stress on the bike.

My dad pulls a 8' by 16' trailer every day through the spring, summer, and fall that typically has 400 gallons of lawn chemicals in it at the beginning of the day and right after lunch. He's also hauled the full trailer 3 hours to Kansas City, or a 30 foot long gooseneck with 5 hot tubs on it. He absolutely loves the thing.

Like others said, you don't have to worry about twisting the reciever tube, but it can put a lot of torsional load on the weld where the rail is attached to the tube. I'm just saying since you'll have some rough roads... I'm the cautious sort If you cover the bike, make sure the cover is secured tight everywhere, if any part of it flaps, it'll beat the hell out of whatever it's flapping against and it'll remove paint etc.
