nice thing about work'n on base is you can usually work a "flex" schedule... so you work 9hrs a day and get every other friday off... so every other weekend is a short one. wish I could do that...
THat's true. When I was a GS the flexible schedule was very nice. Also you accrue vacation time per pay period so you can use it gradually.

Also if you travel on a sunday you can accrue that time and use it against work hours.

Could work very well for someone who, say, might want to build up some time and go to a track...

I won't be able to do that, as all the positions I'm looking at are company level admin/supply jobs. with those you are required to be there for your troops M-F.

yeah for all my troops if they wanna take a single day or two off... I have them fill out leave...just to cover my ass.. then cancel it when they get back... so they don't get charged...

I think leave should be used to go see your family... a day or two off here and there (in moderation) just cause you need a break or wanna long weekend now and again... is fine by me

Guess its a different scenerio when you are full time vs guard.
If we have to work a weekend we don't "acrue" any bonus time.
We're paid 24/7/365. The more we work, the more our hourly wage goes down

well tech same goes for us... we don't acrue anything either... and we're paid 24/7/365... but I was talk'n about leave... which is acrued at 2.5days every month... I don't think my troops should have to waste that day because they need a day or two off... 3+ requires leave that will be charged... this is my personal policy... one that'd get my ass in trouble if they knew about it.. but helps morale

for most places... they require quarters to be off. some like me will let you be sick one day... 2nd day requires quarters as if you're that sick... you need to see the doc.
