All of a sudden these one car garages are springing up everywhere! That i don't understand since everyone drives here so i guess its musical cars then? So if i have one car, then the bikes goes in the garage and the car in the driveway and i have to wheel the bikes around the car? or you can shove your bikes all the way to the back and then take 10 minutes to manuever everything out.

Plus its gets so hot here covered parking is a must.

So far my tools are a tool kit for 20 bucks at walmart + my stock tool set from my bike

3500sq ft is huge! I don't want anything more than 1600-1700 sq ft. and even that would be a PITA for me to clean. Tile and hardwood everywhere!

Ok, so if you're a pack rat like I am, you can use that extra space for storage.

Yeah, I had a one-car garage at my apartment.. there was *just* enough room to park my bike to one side of the garage if I parked my car most of the way to the right. Not the best set up.. but it beat having to move my car every time I wanted to ride the bike.

Yeah in cali where I grew up that would have been considered huge. In the midwest though, it's normal to have 3000+ and not uncommon to have 5000+. Having those finished basements helps a lot.

I grew up in a one storey bungalow (with a finished basement) so I've always wanted a 2 storey.

Sounds like ours. 2 story with an "almost" finished basement. 4 beds with 3 1/2 baths. 3200 sq ft without the basement, basement will make it about 4800 sq ft I believe. Like you said, not huge... but very liveable/comfortable. The newly finished basement helps ALOT!

And whoever said they dont like the dark, wet midwest basements..... all it takes is about a month and 2 coats of Thuroseal, maybe 3 coats in the corners. Nice and dry, and considerably warmer.

My parents built a 3600 sq ft house a few years ago. They waited till all the kids were grown and moved away

Funny, my ideal floor plan is very close to what they built!

That was me! My mom has had her basement totally insulated, sealed, much of it is carpeted, the few windows that it has are super duper no leakage of cold air, etc. There are heat vents in every room and they have a humidifier built into their furnace too. Its never wet but its always way too cold for me. That's in Michigan. My sister in Jersey has had the same stuff done, and the same issues exist. In the summer when its just right on the main and second floor and hot as fuck in the finished except for no air attic, the basement is still fookin cold. And in the winter with the heat on, cold. Maybe I'm just a total wuss from all my years in Florida and Arizona.
