book was better IMO, i hate it when hollywood adjusts things for a happy ending. cheapened the signifigance of the character, not to mention the title. it was supposed to mean that he as the last human alive had become a mythical monster like the vampire society he had accidentally created. but eh i spose id have to expect hollywood to screw things up

yeah... they went in completely different directions... really... the only thing they shared were the disease... the woman... and... that's about it. and even those were different... oh well... both were decent... though now that I think about it (it's been a year or so since i've read the book... I do like the book better... it was a weird ending but like you said... it wasn't that "Hollywood happy ending"

It seems that Hollywood is killing off the main characters in movies, more & more. I knew that when his dog died his time was nearing the end.

On another note, if the world was crawling with zombies, the last place I would wanna be is Manhatten Island.....shit, move to the country, like they did in 29 Days .

I like the book ending, it's not happy and the humans don't win. Hollywood likes to make the humans win too much.

OK - here's MY question from the movie: they blow up the bridges and all access to the island and the scary dudes and Will SMith are left on there. Ok fine. But HOW did the animals get on there? Swim? I don't understand - and then how did the lady get over there to save him. FLY?
I thought the movie was good and I sort of understood the ending...

Personally, I thought it sucked. Another example of making up for a poor screenplay with CGI effects. The original Charlton Heston version was better. At least it had the 70's campiness.

I watched it last night, I was entertained but was expecting more. One question I have: After he chases the dog into the dark building, and we first see the group of infected, WTF are they doing? They are all standing in a circle around something rocking. Looked like some weird Japanese porn
