Hell, we had half of the Greater Toronto Area lose internet access, a few years back, because a couple of morons hacked open a utility box looking for copper wire. Rather than realizing that they had the wrong stuff and giving up, they just kept cutting.

There have been a bunch of crispy critters around here when folks tried breaking into power relay stations to steal the bare copper.
