Police: Man killed baby by shaking
By Stephen Largen • slargen@monroe.gannett.com • June 5, 2009

A West Monroe man was charged with second-degree murder Thursday afternoon after he reportedly shook his 2-month-old son, who later died.

Chase Gregory Cascio, 21, 204 Kings Drive, Lot 65, was arrested by Ouachita Parish sheriff's deputies and is being held at Ouachita Correctional Center. No bond is set.

According to an arrest affidavit, ambulance personnel transported the child to Glenwood Regional Medical Center's emergency room Wednesday afternoon.

The child was transferred to St. Francis North, where a doctor discovered large quantities of blood surrounding the child's brain and a subdural hematoma, injuries consistent with Shaken Baby Syndrome. The child was put on a ventilator but died later. An exam of the child reportedly also revealed broken ribs that were in the process of healing.

An investigation revealed the child was in his father's care at the time the injuries occurred. Cascio reportedly called 9-1-1.

He reportedly admitted to deputies that he shook his son out of anger because of a fight with his wife on the telephone.

The baby was reportedly crying during the phone conversation, and Cascio shook his son after the call ended.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
He comes from a well known family with old money too. His bond was ONLY $600,000 for 2nd degree murder. He shouldn't have had a damn bond. And I bet he's already out.
I noticed there's no mention of an investigation as to how the baby had broken ribs that were mending either!
I gotta stop reading the news. . . . .
I think I need to go hug my daughter again.
Everytime I see one of these stories, I pick her up and hug her. She looks at me like, "WTF is wrong with you dad?"
Stories like this make me almost physically ill.
Humans suck.
Out of all the people who want children and can't conceive, we have pricks like this that don't need to procreate....and people wonder why I don't believe in God.
Makes me want to give the father some broken ribs and a nice concussion. Too bad he'd probably survive it. Why don't these people remove themselves from the world instead of their children?
I see enough of that here, we have had our share of abused kids in the ghetto. I havent personally seen any go to the morgue which is a good thing I guess.
Have seen plenty that do need to be bludgeoned though.
He should have his ribs broken and be put in a special hydraulic machine that would shake him until he died.
