I think the fact that it was released 20 years later adds something extra, I can't find the right word though...

There's a video and series of pictures that were taken during the student protests in Tiananmen Square that became very famous, in part because no one seemed to know who "tank man" was at the time. No one knew if he was alive or dead. The images showed a lone man, holding up his hand, in front of a tank. The tank commander wouldn't run him down and "tank man" didn't back down, so one lone man held back the tanks for no one knows how long.

Yeah I was just reading that anything about this is banned in China....
