Yes, sequels of one-offs are a bloody abortion. Hopefully things will be reconsidered where a 300 sequel is concerned, now that it's obvious Miller should stick to writing, because as a director my sister's Boxer would do better.

This just in: Set to direct the up-coming sequel to Pearl Harbor is Kola...

Your enjoyment of this may depend on how much Kevin Smith you can tolerate, but it's a good example of how hollywood rapes an intellectual property.
Edited to add: it's a long clip.

Then there's the "hey let's change things to suit the studio's need to force a franchise/director's vision of the characters/attach a big name to a project even though they don't fit the part". That's where shit get's miserable. Superman's an emo cunt with a retarded kid? Gotham city is a flamboyantly homosexual neon night club, and Mister freeze is a monosyllabic idiot, while Bane is completely brain dead? Sean Connery playing Sean Connery in League of Extraordinary Gentlemen? A sequel to 300? Seriously?
I totally agree. I hate when someone says they're "Re-imagining" a story for a movie. That means they're spewing failure all over something I love. Even "Adapting" a story is suspect, but I like that term better. What they should say is "I love this comic book/novel/video game and I'm going to try to turn it into a movie. It won't be exactly the same, but as much as I can make it the same I will." And Uwe Boll should be fucking killed before he gets his greasy dickbeaters on Farcry.

As for the Watchmen, I'm holding out hope. The trailers look badass, the director has a record of not totally sucking, and I recognize things in the trailer from the book. I just hope they don't have to telescope the story too much, or cut out too much of the backstory. Or go crazy with they narration, that irritates me. Just because there are exposition panels in the comic, I don't need them read aloud in the movie, it's a cop-out. Figure out a better way.

And just think: You didn't see it first-hand and remember it, to be able to look it up on YouTube

It's ok. I sat through two Captain America movies, all the Punishers, and have seen an abundance of clips from Roger Corman's Fantastic Four.
