Damn, we're talking October, not January! Most you'll need is a jacket liner and some under armour. I've ridden in plenty of cold weather (like 20F cold, not 50 and damp). Best thing you can do to stay warm is block the wind. Leather overpants over jeans and underarmour are perfect. A neck gaiter is irreplaceable. Heated grips and insulated gloves do alright for a while.

Rain pssh. Wet is no problem. Lightning is the issue, and sight distance.
