Well as someone who was a hard core SciFi reader when it came out, I thought that the book also blew goats. A suit of baby sandworms? REALLY? Even the blind guy predicting the future made sense compared to that.

very true, guess they didn't have much to work with and best to try and pretend it doesn't exist.

Definitely how I felt about the Hollywood version of Dune, with Kyle McWhoosis. It was bloody silly. I'm heartened by the fact that Frank Herbert didn't like it either. The 2000 miniseries however, starring Alec Newman, was bloody brilliant. Now I hear they're working on another remake, due for release in 2014.

Not sure why they need another remake, but I agree, the miniseries was pretty amazing.

They don't need another one. Maybe 30, 40, 50 years down the line, when production quality has changed, but not now.
