Regulations and contract negotiations.
Just saw on the news they are NOT flying until tomorrow because they "Need a qualified pilot." It's all weird and horrible politics. The company that owns them are using their FB page to try and get an exclusive contract with the US Forest Service. They have been fighting fires in California before coming here - so their pilots needed to sit out and rest per federal regulations. People are REALLY emotional about it right now. Bastrop needs them to make it rain...

This whole situation pains me.. my unit is supposed to be designed for incident response (natural or man-made), but we are not designed for firefighting. I'm glad Fort Hood has sent some aircraft for MEDEVAC ops at least.

I hope the fires get under control. We lost most of a town in Northern Alberta this year ( Slave Lake) due to uncontrolled forest fires. My cousins Dad lost everything!

ACK!
http://jalopnik.com/5837816/texas-fi...5-classic-cars "Texas fires destroy one collector’s 175 classic cars Texas fires destroy one collector's 175 classic carsThe good news for one Texas man near the massive wildfires is that his home was merely singed, and his family escaped uninjured. The bad news was what the fire took instead — some 175 classic cars, including a Shelby Cobra and about a dozen Corvettes. John Chapman, 70, was shuffling through the ash-covered remains of his collection spread through a garage and several pole barns shorty after the fire moved through, pushing burning embers off what had been left behind. Other vehicles lost included several mid-'50s Chevys, a 1947 Studebaker pickup and a 1966 Pontiac GTO. "You can either laugh or you can cry," Chapman told the Houston Chronicle. "You might as well laugh.""

OH MY!!! That sucks!!!
If I had that many cars, I would have them in a fire supressed building. That being said, if he had them all insured he is going to be a very rich man. |

He had a collection of 175 classic cars... he already was a very rich man... Rich enough, you'd think, to rent a fleet of car haulers... or for that matter... hire a bunch of people to systematically drive all of those cars to a safe location...
