Default new 'ring record!

seen this car on top gear...........race car, PERIOD.

Step aside Nissan GT-R (7min/26.7sec), Corvette ZR1 (7min/26.4sec), and Dodge Viper ACR (7min/22sec). You too, Pagani Zonda (7min/24.7sec) and Maserati MC12 (7min/24.3sec). The latest unofficial "King of the 'Ring" is German sports car maker Gumpert and it's recently debuted Apollo Speed with a time of 7 min/11.57 sec. That time puts it around 15 seconds faster than both Godzilla and the Blue Devil.

The self proclaimed Nurburgring Nordschleife record was undertaken during German publication Sport Auto's Nurburgring 'Supertest' last week. Sport Auto's test is fairly straightforward: Peg some of the world's newest sports cars at the 'Ring and see which goes the fastest around the circuit.

Given its Audi-derived 700-hp twin-turbo 4.2L V-8 powerplant, and extensive carbon fiber aerodynamics, the Apollo Speed is a legitimate Nurburgring terrorizer born from racing.

How long with the record stay at the top? Who knows, but there are quite a few upcoming supercars that are certainly well-capable of disturbing the hierarchy. This should get interesting...

Nothing to add but . I'd love to drive any of those cars around the ring. Most any performance car or bike actually.

Nothing against all these super cars, but the Caddy breaking 8 mins round the 'ring was more awesome to me.

Yes.
Only the sperm with the best lap time can make it through to her hall of fame.

ANd the only people who will buy that car are..........eccentrics who insist on having one of everything (like Jay Leno and the Sultan of Brunei). Everyone else will purchase cars that are actually good-looking, like Ferraris, Astons, etc.

I dunno, I think it's good looking.
Personally, though, I think I'd go for something that I didn't feel like I had to be shoe-horned into and would need to attend a couple of race schools just to know how to operate it.

That's currently the Top Gear recordholder as well, isn't it?

I have to give any small-volume automaker major credit for staying alive in the modern world, but i wouldn't compare it to something like a GT-R or ZR1... could you even get tags for it in the US?
