Well, I went the cheap ADV route with a KLR. Plus I didn't want to lug around a big ass 1200 in the woods, but I still would like in on some of this adventure touring. The bike can make it, I'll just have to make room in the bags for a couple quarts of oil. :P

What's funny about KLRs is that they break down all the time, but they are so very easily fixed with a few roadside mods. The KLR is like my DRZ. It's more geared for woods and less for touring. I want something more for touring since I got the DRZ for woods fun.

So far mine's been good to me (knock on wood) and it's really for playing in the woods, chasing around my nephew, but dangit I get the urge something fierce to hop on and ride across the country when ADV riding comes up as a topic. And it's the KLR or nothing for me since I can't justify yet another motorcycle in the garage.

Thanks for the link. I will have to check it out more thoroughly when I have more time, I should be writing a paper right now. Not that I plan on changing a belt drive anytime soon but it is still cool to understand. |
