Speaking of chains...
A few questions, I think I already know the answers to but insist on asking them anyway.
Is it ok to use a 520 chain on a literbike? Last I remember 530 was the acceptable strength/weight for bigger HP motors. Do they make chains that don't require lube anymore, or is that more for sprocket longevity? |

nope, theres no such thing as maintenance free chains in the real world. it'd be nice, but I dont think theres such a thing.
for a 1000, I wouldnt go with a 520. I feel its TOO small for that size bike. 530 is great though. |

I have a 520 on my 929. All the top manufacturers make 2-3 different "grades" of 520's, the most expensive ones are rated for more torque/tensile strength. So as long as you get that one you're fine.

Personally, despite knowing this, I just dont feel confident using that small a chain.

There is no such thing to "no maintance" on any final drive. Not chain, belt, or shaft. BUt they are in order from most to least amount of maintance.
I would have no problems running the 520 on a liter. I ran one on my 9R. Just get a good X-ring chain (DiD) and good sprockets. Then get an alignment tool and properly align the sprockets. |
