Default It bit the bullet (polaroid TV)

So after 4 years of ownership my 42" LCD polaroid tv has finally died on me. It started to blink out a few days ago, it would just loose its picture and go completely black. But if you turn it off and back on again it would be fine for a few hours. A quick search online turned up that there is a bad capacitor in the unit somewhere, a pretty standard problem on that model and its a $5 fix. So I went and ordered the part online, expecting to get it late this week.

Then an hour or so ago it just went out completely and wont work now. I think I'm just gonna go out and buy a new TV.

Good luck, there are a lot of good TVs out there.

Yeh I'm probably going to drop by best buy tomorrow and pick up the cheapest decent 42" LCD they have.

I'm looking at Dynex for their cunsumer ratings

I always attempt to go on a budget TV, but I always end up a few grand broke after I get a new TV.

I dont really have a choice, I spent a little too much this month on other toys, between the rally, some bike audio equipment, the nook, and an ipod I figure I'm about a grand over what I should have spent this month

I was looking up some info the other day and I ran across the capacitor fix. It looks fairly easy to pull off. If you don't want to, I will.

The capacitors that I believe are bad have rounded tops, vs all the others that are flat. the videos guy said that his were rounded meaning they were bad, I know nothing of electronics so I'm going for the gusto...

the sodering iron is out and I am pulling them off the board

From what I read and saw pics of, they are designed to break open if they are dead or w/e. However, some of them may not. It's best to replace them all if there aren't too many of them. Of course, I'm lazy as fuck and would probably just replace the ones that visually seem off. Be sure to make sure you make sure the polarity is lined up properly when replacing.

This is the guide I found. It was made for a computer motherboard, but I'm sure the same principles apply.
